The Inspector-General of Police, Christian TettehYohuno, in his wisdom, gathered former Inspectors-General of Police at the National Police Headquarters, Accra to seek their counsel and share experiences to enhance the administrative and operational effectiveness of the Police Service.
The meeting which came off on April 2, 2025, was also aimed at strengthening collaboration between the current leadership of the Ghana Police Service and its former IGPs.
The meeting had in attendances former IGPs such as, Christopher Komla (C K) Dewornu, Nana Stephen Owusu-Nsiah and David Asante-Apeatu.
Others, included James Oppong-Boanuh, Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, John Kudalor, Ernest Owusu-Poku and Patrick K Acheampong.
But conspicuously missing from the attendees was the immediate-past Chief constable, Dr George Akuffo-Dampare.
The discussions at the meeting focused on personnel welfare, crime fighting efforts across the country, stakeholder engagement, ongoing reforms in the Police Service and other general issues affecting the Ghana Police Service as well as the security, law and order in the country.
The absence of the immediate past IGP, therefore sent a worrying suspicion as to whether he is still bitter after being shown the exit by President John Dramani Mahama.
This is in view of the fact that his presence afforded him the opportunity to share his possible challenges and regrets, arising out of his leadership which led to a wild Jubilation after his sack.
It could also not be ascertain, whether he sought permission to be absent due to his being out of jurisdiction .
The Herald is reliably informed that Dr Dampare, became unfriendly towards Mr TettehYohuno at a point during his reign as the IGP and might be feeling ‘unsafe ‘ and ‘ too big- to go before his former subordinate .
At the end of the meeting, however, there was a commitment to have regular engagements to ensure the continued growth and effectiveness of the Ghana Police Service.
