……Says Can Negotiate On Its Own
By Patrick Biddah
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana ( CLOGSAG) has said it does not know anything about the intended strike action threatened by the Trades Union Congress ( TUC) .
Not knowing anything about the threat to embark on a nationwide strike, CLOGSAG, says it dissociate itself from the strike declared by the TUC.
The Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, who stated their position on the TUC strike at a press conference yesterday in Accra , explained that it was not part of the decision for the announcement of the strike which is why it cannot be part of it.
“It must be emphasized that CLOGSAG is a registered union and has the right to bargain for its constituents on its own terms”, he stressed.
CLPGSAG, he further pointed out has been channeling its activities for the common good of its members and does not see how TUC, should be the union declaring a strike to cover them.
Over the past week , TUC has been asking for what is said is neutrality allowance from government, but has not been able to reach an agreement.
The TUC declared it intention to embark on a nationwide industrial action stating from May 1 to press home it demand.
But according to CLOGSAG, the strike declared even contradicts the March 1, 2022, Kwahu Declaration when a portion of the communique said there is going to be improve coordination between Fair Wages and Salary Commission on one side and the Finance ministry on another side where it indicated there will be a determined annual wage baskets which will be allowed for all negotiations .
The vociferous Executive Secretary who does not like to mince words, therefore accused TUC of throwing dust into the eyes of workers when on 1st March it created the impression there is no limit to the quantum of money for negotiations and now declaring a strike.
In order to send a strong signal to demonstrate its dissociation from the intended TUC actions , CLOGSAG has served notice of its decision to independently organize activities in all the 16 regions to commemorate this year’s May Day.
“Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) regrets that due to the recent unfortunate development on the Labourfront,we are unable to collaborate with the Trades Union Congress ( Ghana) in the celebration of this year’s May Day” , he added
