Businessman, Ali Seidu distances himself from partisan politics

Businessman, Alhaji Ali Seidu, has distanced himself from the crisis generated by the reshuffle of the Minority leadership in Parliament.

Reports has been widespread that a certain Ali Seidu, a businessman and a contractor was funding and fueling the disagreement in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the replacement of the Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu with the Ajumako Enyan Essiam MP, DrCassiel Ato Forson, as Minority Leader, after a six-year tenure.

But Alhaji Seidu, who some have sought to link to the crisis, in a telephone conversation with The Herald, denied any involvement in such a “dirty” scheme insisting he was above partisan politics. He added that his 3,200 employees’ lives will be at stake if tries politics.

According to him, as a businessman, he would rather remain neutral and see the country’s democracy flourish, rather than getting involved in schemes that jeopardizes the gains of good governance – human rights, rule of law, transparency, accountability and free market – made since the inception of The Fourth Republic.

Alhaji Seidu, lamented how in the past, some Ghanaian politicians, have sought to link him to one issue or the other putting him under the stress of needless criminal investigations and having to seek security clearances from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to do business in other countries.

He repeatedly told The Herald that as an international businessman, meddling in both domestic and international politics, is very injurious to his commercial interests across the world, particularly the international financial markets.

He asked that the rumours that he was involved in spreading between GHc20, 000 to GHc30, 000 among the MPs who have petitioned the NDC’s Council of Elders over the reshuffle to disintegrate the opposition party, be treated with contempt, because there is no iota of truth in the claim.

Ali Seidu, constantly described the claim as “malicious” and “evil” preferring to leave his accusers to God.

He challenged those behind the rumour to produce one NDC MP who had met with him and gotten even One Ghana cedi, to embark on such an undemocratic enterprise.

To him, money is hard to come by and he would not throw GHc20, 000 to GHc30, 000 on such a fruitless exercise.

Interestingly, many NDC MPs some of whom are part of the petition to the NDC council of elders, have since Monday, inundated The Herald’s offices with phone calls to deny receipt of cash amount from any Ali Seidu, to continue with the protest against the NDC national executives over the reshuffle and have the decision reversed.
