Scores of people have been spending days and nights at the National Identification Authority (NIA) office in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, in an attempt to acquire the Ghana card to re-register their SIM cards before the 31 July deadline.
A visit to the regional office of the NIA revealed long queues amidst confusion and misunderstanding as people struggle to acquire the Ghana card to meet the deadline.
Some of them who spoke to Class 93.1 FM’s Elisha Adarkwah bemoaned that despite spending nights at the office, they have not been able to acquire their cards.
They accused the registration authority of giving preference to certain people to the detriment of the ordinary Ghanaian.
They called on the government to extend the SIM card registration deadline.
One can register his or her SIM card only with the Ghana card.
