…chooses insults as defense to conflicting certificates
Kwabena Tahir Hammond, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi-Asokwa, popularly called KT Hammond, has resorted to insults and dirty language in response to some discrepancies in his educational qualification, particularly his first degree in law.
There is confusion over whether the 61-year old, obtained his LLB degree from the University of Ghana, Legon or Holborn Law School, London, UK or studied law as a vocation at in the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, one of the four Inns of Court in London.
Internet site Wikipedia, has captured Mr Hammond as born on June 16, 1960. He hails from Asokwa, a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He is a product of the University of Ghana (UG) where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Political Science from that university in 1986 aged 26.
The site continued that he also attended Holborn Law School, London, UK and got called to the law society of Gray’s Inn, adding that “from there, he acquired a Bachelor of Law in 1991”.
Mr Hammond is also mentioned to be “a graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he studied political science” although he had earlier been captured as having obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Political Science from Legon in 1986.
Questions have been asked, as to how he could obtain two First Degrees in the same subject; Political Science from two different universities in Ghana.
Interestingly, while the site mentioned him as having obtained his Law and Political Science degree from Legon in 1986, the same site, failed to mention the year in which he obtained the second First Degree in Political Science from KNUST.
Things get murkier, on the knowledge that the University of Ghana does combine Law and Political Science degrees and it is unclear whether KNUST runs and awards a degree in political science.
But the outspoken Mr Hammond, has rather been vitriolic, while refusing to speak to the huge doubts raised about his claim of being a lawyer, an allegation levelled against him by US-based social media broadcaster, Kevin Taylor.
KT Hammond, has been the subject of vile criticism from Kevin Taylor, who alleges that the Adansi-Asokwa MP, possesses ‘fake law certificate’ and engages in some activities which impugn the integrity of the office he holds.
Mr Taylor, has sought to know about Mr Hammond’s qualification as a lawyer, where he practiced law, the name of his law firm, his area of specialty, his schoolmates among others, just to prove that indeed, he read law sometime in his life whether in Ghana or the UK, where he lived for years and returned to become a Member of Parliament.
It has also been argued that Mr Hammond doesn’t speak to issues during legal matters , but rather goes rabble-rousing, jumpy and oversensitive. He is unable to complete a sentence meaningfully and convincingly.
But in an interview with some pressmen, KT Hammond, responded to the allegations with some strong words. The lawmaker sarcastically admitted that indeed his law certificate which he has been using for decades, was indeed fake.
“I won’t respond to the lies. He said that my law certificate is fake. It is true. I want to repeat that my certificate is fake. I used goat and sheep skin as a certificate. It is true and I agree that I use fake certificates.
“You claim I’m doing prostitution in Accra. That is also true except that I do it in Obuasi not Accra. I do the prostitution with your family members in Obuasi. When they hear that I’ve received my ex-gratia, they come to Asokwa and we spend it together. These are the issues I will address for now.”
KT Hammond went on to address insults hurled on the elders and residents of Adansi-Asokwa by Kevin Taylor.
He relayed the message of gratitude from the chiefs and elders to Kevin Taylor and urged him to continue on the path.
He warned sarcastically that Taylor will receive his reward for constantly abusing people in positions and showing gross disrespect to politicians and traditional rulers in the country.
