– Mahama
The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed dissatisfaction with the level of development under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, despite the significant loans secured during his tenure.
Speaking during a special prayer session with Muslim clerics and Imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, December 2, 2024, Mahama, contrasted his administration’s achievements with the current government.
He noted that, his government, with loans of approximately $3.5 billion over four years, built new harbours, airports, and other infrastructure.
In contrast, Mahama stated, the Akufo-Addo administration, borrowed about $11.5 billion within five years, but failed to deliver comparable developmental projects.
He expresses the view that, if he had gotten the $11.5 billion that President Akufo-Addo had, Ghana would have been Dubai under his administration.
Within five years [President Akufo-Addo] took a loan of $11.5billion. I was in power for four years, all the things we did, new harbours, airport and all the things, were from a $3.5 billion loan that we took.
“Ghana would have been like Dubai under me if I got the kind of money Akufo-Addo had,” he said during a Special prayer session by Muslim clerics and imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, December
The ex-President, also threw shots at his main opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, over the latter’s ‘return’ to the Ashanti region.
In a video on social media, Mahama, who began his Ashanti Regional tour on November 30, 2024, revealed that his campaign team, had deliberately waited for Dr Bawumia to complete his tour in the region before announcing their campaign dates to avoid potential conflicts.
However, he accused Dr Bawumia of returning to the region, when the dates were announced.
“Our campaign team knew that the presence of both candidates in one region, could create problems. So, we decided to wait for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to complete his campaign tour in the Ashanti Region.
“The moment he finished and left, we announced the date we would start ours. I just heard that he has run back here,” Mahama remarked.
Commenting on Dr Bawumia’s return to the region, Mahama, stated that no matter the efforts made by the NPP candidate in the Ashanti Region, the NDC, would still emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
“All I would say is that he can bring his wife, the Second Lady, and all his children to come and sleep in the Ashanti Region. No matter what he does, when the time comes, the NDC, will still win,” he said.
Mahama’s remarks come as he begins his campaign in the Ashanti Region, a key battleground for both parties as the December 7 elections approach.
