He expressed his profound gratitude to the delegates of the NDC for their warm welcome and active engagement and participation during his tour across the country and turning out their usual astute manner to vote in the party’s presidential elections and parliamentary primaries.
He thanked Dr Kwabena Duffuor and Kojo Bonsu for their participation in their contest, as well as Ernest Kobea, who pulled out to support in him, adding that their taking part in the election has cemented the NDC’s enviable record as the most democratic tradition in Ghana.
“Let’s disagree to agree but let’s keep out collective sides firmly on the supreme objective of the NDC leading Ghana out of the current abyss in which we find our country”, adding “I also asked for the cooperation amongst all our elected Parliamentary candidates, their respective aspirants and supporters in all the constituencies across the country. Our party is the winner because there are no individual winners and losers in this intraparty contest”.
He also thanked his campaign and operational team for keeping their focus and delivering a clean campaign.
He thanked donors and financiers for their support and the media for propagating their message.
He also thanked all religious and traditional leaders who prayed on their behalf for the peace and success achieved.
He indicated that today, Monday at the University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, he would join a teeming number of the ranks and file of the NDC and Ghanaians in general, to deliver his formal acceptance speech on the victory.
Interestingly, as results trickled in on Saturday, Kojo Bonsu, conceded defeat to the former President, who will be making his fourth on the Presidential ballot paper after 2012, 2016, 2020 general elections as the NDC’s candidate.
In a Facebook post, the former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu said he has called John Mahama to congratulate him on his landslide victory in the presidential primaries, although the party was yet to officially announce polling results.
“I have placed a call to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him for the landslide victory. Just as I’ve indicated throughout my campaign, regardless of the outcome of this election I’ll continue to serve the NDC party,” he said in a Facebook post.
Kojo Bonsu was John Mahama’s only contender in the NDC presidential primary following former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffour’s abrupt withdrawal from the race on Friday citing electoral irregularities and had taken the party to court.
