Market women and traders at the Dome market in Accra, are up in arms against the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga East Assembly, Elizabeth Kaakie Mann.
They say, she is incompetent and is negligent of her core duties as an MCE.
She is being accused of using taskforce of the assembly to harass and maltreat them and in some cases injuring them.
Addressing a press conference yesterday February 9, 2023 at the market, a smoked fish seller, Madam Vicentia Lamptey, accused the MCE of being an oppressor.
She claimed the MCE has not brought any development in the last two years she has been at post and there are no hope of the market seeing any development.
“ Instead of her concentrating on bringing progress and development to the welfare of traders, she has rather taken interest in creating division among the traders She is not a unifier , she came to disturb the peace of us the traders “, she stressed.
Clad in red arm bands, Madam Lamptey, said they are suffering under the leadership of the MCE, who she further accused of causing fear and panic .
They made reference to a case in which she ordered for the handcuffing of a 60-year old woman by name Abena Fosua, over market toll collection.
“ Abena Fosua was handcuffed, brutalized and taken to the Taifa District Police Command for no offence committed “, the reader of the press statement recalled.
Jointly addressed by market women from Taifa and Kwabenya, the traders have, therefore asked the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack her on account that she is not fit for purpose.
“She cannot do the job because she has no experience and is not ready to learn. She is full of arrogance, malice and hatred .Our markets are in deplorable states. Businesses have gone down because of her interference in the running of the market “, she pointed out.
Failure to sack her, the women who said they are sympathetic to the New Patriotic Party have threatened to vote against the party in the 2024 elections.
Their threat stems from the fact that Dome Market is the only surviving stronghold of the NPP in Ga East.
