The 74-year-old former National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Gifty Ama Asantewaa Ayeh, alias “Daavi Ama”, is the only female contesting with seven other aspirants for the position of National Chairman of the governing party.
As the first female treasurer of the NPP, she will be banking her hopes, on her experience and the influence she had gathered over the years to woo delegates to vote for her.
For now, she will have to face off competition from Prof Christopher Akumfi, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Sammy Crabbe, Akwasi Osei Adjei, Joseph Ayikoi Otoo, as well as George Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah.
If Daavi Ama gets the nod, she will be looking forward to unifying a party that is going into one of its toughest battles yet.
She would also have the herculean task of convincing the Ghanaians voters, as to why they should ‘break the eight’ and maintain the NPP in the face of rising inflation and skyrocketing food prices, leading to numerous strikes and protests.
Daavi Ama, is of the hope that being the former Chairperson of the Volta Region Resource Group, a Member of the Greater Accra Council of Elders, as well as a Member of the National Council Representative for the Southern Sector, all being positions she held in the party, had prepared her enough to walk in the shoes of outgoing National Chairman, Freddie Blay.
At the government level, Daavi Ama, was once the Government Representative on the National Media Commission (NMC).
She also served as the Member of the Executive Council, Member of the District Assemblies Common Fund Credit approval, a representative to the Electoral College for the Council of State, as well as many other portfolios.
Her contribution to the party and the nation, is the reason why former president, John Agyekum Kufuor, awarded her the Order of Volta.
According Daavi Ama, she had served under some of the party’s best brains, who served as the NPP’s chairmen, starting from Peter Ala Adjetey, former Speaker of Parliament, Odoi Sykes, Haruna Esseku, Peter Mac Manu, as well as Jake Okanta Obetsebi Lamptey and would used the experience garnered over the years to steer the affairs of the party, if elected.
“ I have worked seriously under the past chairmen, I have under studied them and I think they made it because of teamwork, tolerant and having a listening era.”
The traits exhibited by the past chairmen is another thing that makes the once avid writer who penned down articles under pseudo name ‘Daavi Ama at Dimples Junction’ believe that the most needed leadership traits at this crucial moment in Ghana’s election is not even a fine writer nor a communicator but someone who has a team spirit, a listening ear and a tolerant heart.
Daavi Ama who is a strong advocate of women empowerment is urging delegates of the ruling party to vote for her as the first female National Chairman to make the NPP a powerful electoral force to break the 8-year jinx of power alternation in the country.
She appealed to party’s delegates to give her the nod to mobilize more voters, especially floating voters for the party to win more votes in the forthcoming general elections.
Daavi Ama, pledged to work tirelessly to win massively for the Presidential and Parliamentary seats in the 2024 general election.
Madam Gifty Ama Asantewaa Ayeh, would be placed on the number one spot on the ballot paper in the NPP National Chairmanship position. This was the outcome of the balloting which was conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
She believes she is in a strategic position to beat all the male contestants.
The eight persons vying for the Chairmanship position per their positions on how they will appear on the ballot, Daavi Ama comes first, Sammy Crabbe, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, Mr Osei Adjei, Mr Ntim, Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo, Mr Asamoah-Boateng and Mr Abankwah-Yeboah.
