The Secretary of the National Sand and Stone Tipper Drivers Association, Eric Odei Asare, has encouraged drivers and vehicle owners, especially tipper drivers to equip their trucks with trucking device, in order to improve the security and effectiveness of the trucking operations of the vehicle.
According to him, the trucking device provides real-time tracking and monitoring of the vehicle’s location, speed, and other vital parameters and can be invaluable in managing fleet operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing routes for improved productivity.
He noted that the device will not only enhance the security of trucking operations but also increase efficiency, speed, and other crucial aspects of the vehicle that are tracked and monitored by the device.
Speaking in an interview with the Herald Newspaper in Accra, Mr Asare noted that the trucking equipment can also make it possible for owners to find and recover stolen vehicles quickly, reducing financial losses and significant business disruptions.
He added that vehicle owners are also able to identify and resolve any unlawful usage of the vehicles and avoid misuse and making it easier to regulate driver conduct effectively from a safety perspective and can spot unsafe driving practices.
Mr. Asarestressed the need for drivers and vehicle owners how critical it is for the transportation sector to adopt new technologies to improve their operations, safeguard their assets, and promote general road safety.
The Secretary of the Sand and Stone Tipper Drivers Association expressed concern regarding a substantial increase in the conveyance fee charged by the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, MMDCEs, for sand and stone quarrying operations which according to him, the fee has risen from Ghana¢10 to Ghana ¢30 and he expressed his dissatisfaction with this significant increment.
Mr Asare, emphasized that this surge in toll costs has also had a detrimental impact on members and their businesses explaining that the rising tolls have resulted in higher operating expenses, affecting profitability and the overall viability of their operations.
He, therefore, pleaded with relevant authorities to review and reconsider the toll fee and the conveyance fee hikes, highlighting the importance of maintaining a conducive business environment for the sand and stone transportation industry.
Mr Asare lamented over the current state of unmemorable roads its members ply on a daily basis saying the deteriorating condition of these roads has raised significant worries to them, as it poses numerous challenges and risks to the operations of their trucks.
The Secretary further pointed out that these roads, which are crucial for the transportation of sand and stone materials, have become increasingly difficult to traverse due to potholes, excessive dust, and insufficient maintenance. This not only hampers the efficiency of their operations but also jeopardizes the safety of the drivers and the general public.
Mr Asare pleaded with the MMDCEs to take immediate action in addressing this issue and underscored the need for road repairs and improvements to ensure smooth and safe passage for their trucks.
The secretary further disclosed plans for the association to undergo a rebranding and strategic repositioning, aligning itself with changing market dynamics. This initiative aims to capitalize on innovative technologies and represent a prominent segment within the construction industry.
