The Herald is picking up report that the Energy Minister, was forced from his sickbed in Dubai, to be in Ghana to participate in Monday’s brawl over the controversial E-Levy.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, was on the day seen entering the House with crutches.
The minister’s appearance, has since sparked debate as to what is wrong with him, especially when he was seen recently on various media platforms speaking on issues, including the one-laptop per a teacher policy and kicking against the Keta Sea Defense wall among others.
But The Herald’s digging has revealed the ex-Minister of Education, has in recent days been in Dubai for a medical treatment.
Although, he had told friends that he accidently twisted his ankle and fell, family and close friends say there is more to him being on crutches.
This newspaper’s findings are that the Minister’s health condition is being managed by an expensive facility called Transform International.
Sources in the Dubai-based facility, are tight-lipped as to the actual health challenge Matthew Opoku Prempeh is dealing with.
But his knees appear to be the most probable, as he is hardly seen these days standing straight.
The Herald is informed that the government of Ghana, is paying colossal amounts for his treatment.
This newspaper, is further informed that lots of MPs and government appointees are going through medical treatments at various places and countries at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayer.
Ahead of his appearance in Parliament on Monday, Opoku Prempeh, joined management and staff of the Ministry of Energy for its end-of-year durbar, his first since taking office.
He remained seated throughout the event, and could not get up to dance as he does normally.
His Deputy, Andrew Agyarpa Mercer, who was present, was seen on his fit dancing to classic music, eating sumptuous food and expensive drinks.
In a speech attributed to him, he said that “in the power sector particularly, we faced considerable challenges throughout the year. However, the hard work and dedication of the staff helped enormously in the timely resolution of most of these issues and I am incredibly proud of them all.
“As the year draws to a close, it is my prayer that in the times ahead, staff will renew their commitment to duty and work even harder to achieve our collective targets and help position the Ministry much better to deliver on its mandate.
He wished “Afehyia Pa” to all staff and friends of the Ministry of Energy. May this special season bring us all the peace and love of God in great measure and grant our hearts’ desires in the coming year”.
