The MTN Ghana Foundation has commissioned and handed over an ultra-modern Accident and Emergency Centre valued at GH¢15.4 million to the Ho Teaching Hospital, strengthening the company’s contribution to healthcare delivery in the Volta Region. The facility was highlighted by Mr. David Gyimah Boadi, General Manager for Southern Ghana at MTN Ghana, during the company’s Regional Media and Stakeholder Engagement in the region at Ho.
The annual MTN stakeholder engagement event was introduced more than 25 years ago to create the opportunity for the mobile tele-communication giant and journalists to exchange ideas and also communicate feedback from the general public on the operations and performance of the service provider. The engagement, which initially started as the MTN Editors’ forum, later metamorphosed into the current stakeholder engagement event to include other stakeholders or partners in the MTN space or value chain.

The forum brought together journalists and media practitioners from radio, television, print and online media houses, both state and private, including some representatives from the new media. Also present at the stakeholder forum were representatives from the National Communications Authority (NCA), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) as well as the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
He said the intervention formed part of MTN Ghana’s broader commitment to supporting communities through investments in health, education, digital inclusion and skills development. Mr Boadi said the company recognised that meaningful development required more than telecommunications services, adding that its social investments were intended to create opportunities and improve lives.
He disclosed that the MTN Ghana Foundation had supported 230 students through its Bright Scholarship schemes, helping beneficiaries to pursue their education.
Nationally, the Foundation awarded 500 Bright Scholarships in 2026, covering tuition, accommodation, a stipend and a laptop for each beneficiary. The scholarship initiative is intended to ease the financial burden on students and improve access to educational opportunities.

Mr Boadi said the company was also investing in digital skills development to prepare young people for employment and participation in the growing digital economy.
Through the MTN Skills Academy, more than 100,000 young people have been equipped with digital literacy, financial skills and career readiness.
The Volta Region has also benefited from the Girls-in-ICT programme, which was organised last year in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications.
The initiative trained 1,000 young girls and 100 teachers in basic information and communications technology (ICT), digital skills and work-readiness competencies.

The programme seeks to encourage girls’ participation in technology and equip them with skills relevant to emerging employment opportunities.
Mr Boadi said MTN Ghana would continue to collaborate with government and other stakeholders to bridge the digital divide and ensure that more young people acquired the skills needed for the future.
Beyond formal training and scholarships, the company is supporting innovation and entrepreneurship through platforms such as DigiFest 2026, the Tɛkyerɛma Pa Hackathon and the MTN Game Developer Contest. These initiatives, the MTN Southern Ghana General Manager explained, provide opportunities for young people, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and developers to build their skills, showcase ideas and contribute to Ghana’s digital development.
Mr Boadi said MTN Ghana remained committed to supporting the government’s development agenda through connectivity, digital and financial inclusion, enterprise support and youth empowerment. He acknowledged that access, affordability, digital literacy and relevant skills remained challenges, requiring sustained collaboration among government, educational institutions, development partners, businesses and local communities.
As MTN Ghana celebrates 30 years of operations, Mr Boadi reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Volta Region’s development through improved connectivity and interventions in areas that directly affect people’s lives.
He said the region’s tourism, agricultural potential, entrepreneurial activities and educational institutions presented opportunities for further growth.
He assured stakeholders that MTN Ghana would continue to invest in connectivity, expand digital opportunities and support initiatives that promote social and economic progress. Mr Boadi also expressed appreciation to the media, government, regulators, customers and communities for their contributions to the company’s journey, emphasising that partnership and trust would remain central to its future.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Senior Manager, South East at MTN Ghana, Mr. Prince Owusu-Nyarko noted that the role of the media in MTN’s operations over the years cannot be over-emphasized, adding that MTN would continue to work closely with the media even beyond its 30-year journey. He expressed the hope that this year’s stakeholder engagement would create the avenue for further engagement and collaboration between the media, other stakeholders and the tele-communication giant for the benefit of all Ghanaians including its subscribers.
The Technical Field Services Manager of MTN Ghana in-charge of Volta, Eastern and Oti Regions, Engineer Samuel Duku announced that MTN Ghana was working on service improvement in several communities and areas across the region, assuring that such challenges would be taken care of in due course. According to him, it is not for anything that MTN Ghana is heavily investing resources in infrastructure to improve upon its operations across the country.
The Acting Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, MTN Ghana, Ms. Efua Falconer Esq. stressed the need for the journalists to become diligent and committed ambassadors of passing on vital information to their viewers, listeners and clients to enable them benefit from programmes such as the MTN scholarships and other social intervention initiatives. She lamented that in 2025, nobody from the region had the opportunity to benefit from any of such important initiatives because nobody applied or put in any applications from the region.
The Chief IT Assistant from the Volta Regional Directorate of the EPA, Mr. Fuseini Sidwaya Jawulhak as well as the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GPS, Chief Inspector Francis K. Gomado also addressed the meeting, describing the engagement as fruitful and worth-organizing. They also pledged their commitment as partners to ensuring that the vision of MTN Ghana is achieved for the development of the country and its citizens.
