…As helpless Land Owner petitions Works and Housing Minister_
Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asensio Boakye, has been petitioned over the land grabbing impunity being exhibited by business mogul and owner of McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley, and wife Roberta Huppenbaeur with support from their allies within the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly.
This is in relations to land reservations and water rights in the East Legon enclave of the Greater Accra Region.
According to the petition intercepted by ghananewsonline.com.gh, one Nana Osei Kyeretwie Prempeh – a supposed owner of a parcel of land around the East Legon Residential Area (specifically on the Monrovia road), has alleged that he has witnessed several acts of interference and trespass by associates and assigns of Madam Roberta Huppenbaeur and her husband, Daniel McKorley, regarding his parcel of land and that of other neighbours in the vicinity.
“Madam Roberta Huppenbaeur and Daniel McKorley and their associates and assigns have unlawfully entered my land and the lands of my neighbours as well as the reservation for the stream that runs behind my land and that of my neighbours. Their associates and assigns have interfered with our property rights and environmental rights in a threatening manner several times despite being forbidden on numerous occasions,” he maintained in the petition.
Nana Prempeh further indicated that McDan and his wife have continuosly been trying to interfere with the reservation for the stream in the enclave and that on March 28, 2023, some unknown men brought an excavator to the site and diverted the stream by unlawfully constructing culverts to create access route to the reservation behind his land.
“The diversion of the stream and construction works going on violates the Water Resources Commission Act 1996 (Act 522),” he stated.
The petitioner also maintained that McDan and the wife are vigorously supported by some officials of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly to perpetrate this unlawful acts by rezoning the reservation area as a residential plot in response to a noted proposal by Madam Roberta Huppenbaeur to the Lands Commission to acquire the said reservation.
“One Leo Skarlatos, CEO of AirtelTigo, claims to have also acquired a part of the reservation from Daniel McKorley, which said land he has attempted to sell to some of my neighbours” he noted.
The petitioner, Nana Osei Kyeretwie Prempeh, insists that the decision to rezone the said reservation for the stream is arbitrary and unreasonable, which does not take into consideration the environmental impact on the residents of Shiashie and its environs.
He is of the view that as the rainy season is about to start, if this unlawful act is not stopped, “my house and many residents will be flooded which will lead to the loss of properties and lives.”
He has, therefore called on the Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asensio-Boakye, to as a matter of urgency intervene in the matter by halting the unlawful conduct being perpetrated by Madam Roberta Huppenbaeur, wife of Daniel McKorley of McDan Group of Companies and her accomplices in the area to preserve the peace and tranquility being enjoyed by the Shiashi community.
