Ghanaian Reggae/Kuchoko artiste and media personality Abubakar Ahmed, known by many as Blakk Rasta, revealed on TV3 New Day that, if he were to be the president, his priority will be to change the mentality of Ghanaians as there is a lack of patriotism amongst Ghanaians.
He said, “For me, the way forward for Africa, not only Ghana, is not the roads. It is not the hospitals, it is not the schools, it is the mindset. I keep saying it. If I ever became president of this country, I will not be thinking about schools and roads and all of that.
“For the first few years, I will just be thinking about rewiring the minds of the people. Because it is the problem of attitude. It is the problem of patriotism. If you are patriotic, there is no way you will go and steal from here, steal from there, and saddle the country in debts and all that. It doesn’t make sense. You can build all the roads, build all the schools and hospitals, but the people are going to pull them down because they are not patriotic. They don’t even understand what patriotism is. That’s why right from the beginning of our Independence, Nkrumah told us straight away, today you have your independence. But it is time now to change your attitude. 57’ till now, the attitude has even become worse. We bring in foreigners and par with them to steal from us. We steal from ourselves. What kind of people are we?”
He further revealed that he has received some resistance and threats from politicians for his forthrightness.
“Oh yes, we have had ‘politrickcians’ fight us, threaten us. You remember I was at the parliament house, wasting everybody’s time. And all they wanted was an apology.”
Blakk Rasta will be on your airwaves on 3FM’s Urban Blend starting on Monday, October 17, 2022, in a 4-hour show between 10 am and 2 pm.
