Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of being short-circuited when it comes to criticism, revealing how the Ghanaian leader, got highly enraged and almost drove his fingers into his eye for criticizing his government.
He mentioned Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Afriyie Akoto, as present and witnessed how the President almost violently scooped out his eyeballs from their socket.
Dr Wereko-Brobby, directed the journalist, Philip Osei Bonsu and host of the Ekossii Sen current affairs programme on Asempa 74.7 FM, to go and speak to them, including the President himself, about his ordeal.
The man popularly known as “Tarzan”, is an engineer, politician and businessman in Ghana, and once served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana’s Volta River Authority (VRA), then the country’s major hydropower generator and distributor.
He did not mention when and where the President angrily attacked him, but he said it happened at a funeral service of a common friend of theirs and insisted that the Chief of Staff and the Agric Minister, can both corroborate his claim.
Both the President and Tarzan, had been good friends for years and even been part of the country’s landmark demonstrations, particularly the Kume Preko protest under the Jerry John Rawlings administration.
“Tarzan” disclosed that, but for smartly re-positioning his head away from President Akufo-Addo’s fingers, he would have succeeded in having access to his eyeballs and rendering him blind.
Dr Wereko-Brobby, mentioned that the attack was sparked by an interview he granted to Joy FM’s Evans Mensah, which the President was not happy about, and got angry when they met at the funeral, accusing him of lying about his government.
“If you want evidence, go and talk to the Chief of Staff and Minister for Agric, Dr Akoto Afrieyie. They were witnesses to the attempted assault on me by the President, claiming I lied about his Governance…He was very angry”, he said this in an interview on Asempa FM which went viral in a short video yesterday.
He revealed that he, the President and other party bigwigs, used to meet regularly to discuss issues and even share ideas, but that stopped along the way.
These meetings he said, used to take place at the initial stage of his presidency with a weekly memo submitted to him, however, he stopped attending the meetings.
He told the host about how their friendship predates partisan politics, saying they used to be very close friends.
