The Government of Ghana, has expressed strong support for the newly launched diplomatic initiative between Europe and Iran, which aims to ease rising tensions and prevent further conflict between Israel and Iran.

In a statement released on Friday, June 20, 2025, the Ghanaian government described the development as a “welcome and timely effort” and urged the international community to back the diplomatic push.

“We believe this initiative should be embraced and encouraged by all stakeholders committed to global peace and security,” the statement read.

The West African nation emphasized that diplomacy remains the most effective path to de-escalation.

“Ghana has always maintained that sincere and genuine diplomatic engagement is the only viable, pragmatic, and humane option to resolving the current conflict,” the statement added.

As Chair of the Governing Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ghana has played a visible role in international peace and security discussions, particularly on issues involving nuclear non-proliferation and regional stability.

“Dialogue and diplomacy must remain at the centre of our collective response to global tensions,” the statement continued.

“Ghana has consistently championed these approaches as fundamental to addressing the concerns of all parties involved.” the statement indicated.

In a pointed appeal, the Government called on Israel to reconsider its stance and participate in the ongoing diplomatic talks.

“We urge Israel to engage constructively in this process,” the statement said, emphasizing that diplomacy offers a peaceful way forward.

The Ghanaian government also raised alarm over the broader consequences of continued hostilities, warning that further escalation would have severe global repercussions.

“The devastating effects of this conflict are already being felt by the international community. A continued escalation will only worsen the consequences and undermine global stability,” the statement concluded.

The statement reflects Ghana’s longstanding foreign policy approach that prioritizes multilateral dialogue, peace building, and international cooperation.
