Angry youth in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have threatened the Ghana Police Service over rumors that Malik Basintale, the Deputy Communication Officer of the NDC, is to be arrested for his alleged comments about the NPP flagbearer, Dr MahamuduBawumia.
Basintale, reportedly described Bawumia as a “pork eater,” despite Bawumia being a Muslim.
The enraged youth, have taken to Facebook and other social media platforms to caution the Ghana Police Service to dismiss the rumors of arresting Malike Basintale.
They have warned that, if the police proceed with the alleged arrest, purportedly at Bawumia’s behest, they will retaliate by mobilizing against the police.
Some have emphasized their unwillingness to tolerate what they perceive as an unjust arrest of Basintale, arguing that any such action, would be seen as a targeted attack on their own.
“Let it be clear, without any ambiguity, that any attempt to arrest him (Malik Basintale) unjustly will compel us to take action,” a Facebook post stated, criticizing the perceived selective application of justice.
Another Facebook post, suggested that Bawumia, referred to derogatorily as “Alhaji Pork Eater,” has allegedly directed the police to arrest Basintale. The post warned that the youth will continue calling Bawumia this name regardless of any arrest attempts.
NDC National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, also weighed in on the controversy.
In a Facebook post, Sammy Gyamfi accused the NPP, particularly Atta Akyea of spreading false information about John Dramani Mahama, branding him as a drunkard without consequence.
“We dare you to arrest him. After you do that, just prepare to arrest all of us as well, because we shall surely help you market your newfound title; Alhaji Pork Eater.” Sammy Gyamfi stated.
The NDC Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo, also took to Facebook to rally support, calling on the Green Army to defend against what he describes as unjust actions by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration and their allies in the police service.
“If Comrade Malik Basintale is arrested, we will mobilize and protest at the Police Headquarters. We will not be intimidated in 2024. We shall take the protest to the streets and every corner of the country,” he stated, warning the police to heed his words.
The NDC youth wing and supporters of Malik Basintale, are deeply upset about the rumored police manhunt related to Basintale’s comments about Bawumia eating pork.
Malik Basintale, had made the controversial remark in response to Atta Akyea’s claims that John DramaniMahama is a drunkard, implying that if attacks on Mahama are permissible, then criticism of Bawumia, should also be tolerated.
