The Minister For Water Resources and Sanitation, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, is urging the Executive Chairman of the JOSPONG Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, to venture into the production of energy.
According to the Minister, Dr Siaw Agyepong, has demonstrated viable innovations in the waste management industry and was of the view that it will be in order if he ventured into the production of energy by way of using waste.
Describing him as someone who has a ‘soft ear’ for opinions and suggestions, the Minister further stressed the believe that with his depth of experience and ability to take risk, Dr Siaw Agyepong, will lead the way in this energy production area.
The Minister made the call yesterday when she paid a working visit to the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal Assembly to familiarize herself with the operations of the Recycling Plant since it was established in 2012.
The Minister said the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recognizes the effort of Dr Siaw Agyepong and in line with the government policy, will support him on what other enterprise he decides to veers into.
“ Dr Siaw Agyapong is a known risk taker who has taken many risks which has seen many positive results and I have no doubt he is one such entrepreneur who should be applauded”, she noted.
After the tour which took her to the Receiving Bay, the Magnetic Separator, the Tunnels and the Conveyer Belts, the Minister expressed satisfaction, saying what could have been of our waste situation if the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant had not come on stream.
Currently, Accra generates over 3, 000 tonnes of waste a day whiles the Plant is able to receive between 1, 200 and 1,400 tonnes of waste a day.
The country in a whole generates over 7.4 million tonnes of waste, the Minister stated.
In view of the growing population and the waste that is generated, the Minister said government in partnership with the Jospong Group of companies is constructing recycling and compost plant in all the sixteen regions of the country.
Some of these recycling plants, the Minister revealed will be fitted with some mobile recycling equipment which have been imported newly into the country by the JOSPONG Group of Companies.
She reiterated the call for the Jospong Group of companies to pioneer their waste into the generation of energy.
Responding to the call to venture into energy production, the Managing Director of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant Mr Michael Tuwor, indicated that the company is already done with the feasibility studies with the University of Science and Technology to turn waste into energy.
“Indeed, turning waste into energy is the way to go because as a company we process residual products which will help to derive energy and other Residual Derived Fuel “, he said.
