The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations have begun training 50 public officials in artificial intelligence (AI), data management and digital governance as part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation across the public sector.
The three-day training, which began on Monday, October 12, 2026, is designed to equip officials from government institutions with practical skills to apply digital technologies and AI in public administration.
The initiative builds on earlier AI capacity-building programmes for government ministers and forms part of the year-long Accelerating Public Sector Digital Transformation through Capacity Building programme, funded by the Government of Japan.
The programme seeks to strengthen the ability of public servants to drive digital innovation, adopt AI responsibly and improve public service delivery.
Participants are also expected to deepen their understanding of digital public infrastructure, which supports the delivery of government services through digital systems.
However, the success of the initiative will depend on how effectively the skills acquired are applied within government institutions to improve services and address existing challenges in public administration.
The programme comes amid growing interest in the use of AI and digital tools to transform government operations, with questions of responsible adoption, data management and practical implementation remaining central to the process.
