The District Chief Executive of Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Danso, has been summoned to answer questions on his alleged involvement in galamsey in his district.
The summon was issued by the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Decentralisation, Daniel Kweku Botwe.
Mr Danso is, however, yet to respond to the summon as he is set to mark his wife’s one-week death commemoration on Thursday, October 6.
These were disclosed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a meeting with metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) and the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi on Wednesday, October 5.
“Depending on the quality of his response, we will decide what the future holds for him,” President Akufo-Addo told the other MMDCEs.
It comes after the DCE was heard in a leaked audio, claiming some percentage from a share of a galamsey concession and encouraging others to go to Chinese in the night to claim monies from them for illegal mining.
President Akufo-Addo said the issue will be thoroughly investigated.
He also warned his representatives to desist from their alleged involvement and rather help in the fight.
“You are my representatives in each of your metropolises, municipalities and districts. You the representatives of the President. It cannot be that the President at the national level is waging a war against galamsey and you at the local level, my representatives, are compromising that fight. That cannot work.”
