Incumbent National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has temporarily suspended all campaign activities.
This follows the death of his mother, Madam Mary Gyawubea Badu, on Monday, October 31 at the Koforidua Regional Hospital. She was 84.
Announcing the death on his official Facebook page, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, who is being challenged by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia for the National Chairmanship position, described his mum as a “matriarch and rock” of his family.
“In view of this, I am temporarily suspending all campaign activities as together with the rest of the family, we reflect and mourn the passing of the woman who shaped our very beings.”
He concluded: “On behalf of my family and I, I thank all those who have reached out to us with encouragement and those who have spared thoughts and prayers in these very difficult times. Let’s keep hope alive.”
