Nearly 9 out of 10 Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction – Afrobarometer

Data from a recent survey has concluded that a majority of Ghanaians have a negative outlook on the country’s current trajectory.

A new Afrobarometer report indicates that nearly 87% of the citizenry does not see the country in the right direction.

Per the study, “only 11% see things going in the right direction, a 24 -percentage-point decline since 2019.”
The portion on the economy, public services, and taxation also had respondents assessing the country negatively when it comes to their economic condition and standard of living.

“A large majority of citizens gave unfavourable assessments of both their personal living conditions and the nation’s economic condition, and few were optimistic that things will improve during the coming year.”

This study comes at a time when the government is at the doorstep of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for assistance to surmount the financial downturn in the country.

“Citizens’ gloomy outlook aligns with macro-level indicators on Ghana’s struggling economy in a difficult global environment,” the report added.

Afrobarometer is a pan-African, non-partisan survey research network that provides reliable data on African experiences and evaluations of democracy, governance, and quality of life.
