A pressure group, Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), has cautioned the Greater Accra regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) , Ashie Moore, not to venture into arresting members of the NDC.
He said, the chairman of the party in the region, has no right to cause the arrest of the members of the NDC, who are helping to protect state properties.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on January 9, 2025, the chairman of ACEG, Mr. E.S Mahama, indicated that he Ashie Moore, is not the only one who contributed to the victory of the party .
“I want to send this message to the regional chairman of Greater Accra NDC, Ashie Moore that in his interview he did mention that the police should arrest the NDC supporters, who are carrying out such actions, and I want to use this platform to let Honorable Ashie Moore know that what he said was not acceptable. It is wrong to order for an arrest of the NDC people”, he said
“I also want to tell Chairman Ashie Moore that, the police, cannot not arrest anybody. No arrest was made eight (8) years ago when President Mahama handed over power to the NPP, and no arrest can be carry out now”, he warned .
“He has issued out an order for their arrest. ACEG does not think this is the best solution to the situation”, he stressed.
“This is because, though they are wrong in approach, they are not wrong in taking over” he added.
Justifying his position he said Arise for Change for Economic Growth had a media engagement on the 17th of December, 2024 and said that the party members in the various constituencies should take over the offices of the MM/District Assemblies, NADMO, Ghana Water/ rural water, health insurance, after the swearing-in of the President elect.
“When they were trying to rig elections where was he? He should be very careful with his utterances and actions. Such actions will aid the outgoing appointees in their cover-ups, and prevent President Mahama and his administration from ensuring probity and accountability”, he explained.
He, however, advised against wrongful locking of innocent civil servants.
“However, ACEG has noticed with grave concern pockets of issues regarding alleged NDC sympathizers who are said to be invading and locking up government institutions across the country, thereby preventing civil servants from carrying out their lawful duties”, he pointed out .
“Much as we had encouraged NDC supporters to take over responsibly to prevent the outgoing Political officials from looting state assets, they should note that the mother party, NDC does not support vandalism. And in line with this, ACEG condemns any form of vandalism”, he said.
