The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called on the Chief of Defence Staff to dismiss a military officer accused of leading an operation involving the seizure of trucks belonging to residents of Ningo-Prampram.
The minister identified the officer as Lieutenant Albert Goh, with service number 5666, and accused him and other soldiers of entering the constituency heavily armed, seizing residents’ trucks without lawful authority and mistreating people in the area.
Addressing the officer, Sam George described his alleged conduct as a disgrace to the Ghana Armed Forces and called for disciplinary action.
“What you did yesterday was akin to armed robbery,” he said, accusing the soldiers of taking citizens’ property without lawful authorisation and using the trucks for about two weeks.
He said he expected the Chief of Defence Staff to dismiss Lieutenant Goh from the military for bringing the service into disrepute.
The minister also alleged that the officer disrespected a police commander, a Chief Superintendent, who had attempted to engage him over the operation.
According to Sam George, some of the soldiers allegedly cocked their weapons at the police commander during the encounter.
He said he would discuss the matter with the Minister of Defence to ensure that the military authorities investigated the incident and disciplined those found responsible.
Sam George also warned military personnel against returning to the constituency to brutalise residents, saying anyone involved would be held accountable under the law.
He maintained that the people of Ningo-Prampram deserved justice and that he would pursue the matter through the appropriate military channels.
