The Ghana United Nations Association, GUNA, has elected new national executives to manage its affairs for the next four years at its 44th annual congress in Accra on the theme; Partnership for Development.
The elections which were largely by acclamation sought to inject a new breath of vibrancy into the activities of the organization for invigorated operations. The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana led by the La Dadekotopon Municipal Director of the EC, Kofi Frimpong.
Some of the new executives are Ambassador Nathan Rudolf emerged the new General Secretary, Reverend Chris Pardie emerged as the new National President, Dr. Samuel Kodzo Senyoh elected 1st Vice President, Meriga Antaru emerged as the 2nd Vice President and Bishop John Kweku Asante as Director of Protocol.
The rest are, Charles Nkrumah as National Organising Secretary, Mary Pokua Yankey as National Treasurer/Financial Secretary, Francis Ntijah as Secretary for Peace and Security, Razak Timbilla as Secretary for Governmental Affairs, and Reverend Fred Anyasor-Nartey as Secretary for Media and Publicity.
Others include, Amb. Samuel Bamidele Temitope Ojo, who was elevated from Secretary for Youth Affairs to become National President for Youth Affairs, Anthony Amankwah as Director of Programmes, Selaase Lhal Haiadzi as the Director of Administration, Nasir Abdalla Kassim as International Affairs and Albert Forson as Secretary for Research and Education.
Delivering the keynote address, the Country Director for the International Society of Diplomats, ISD, an A-class organization with the core mandates to promote international diplomacy through friendship, trade, investment, international cooperation, peace, and social Justice, Ambassador Clifford Martey Korley, said, GUNA is well placed to catalyze the required change across several spheres, and underscored the essence of strong partnerships at all fronts in such regard as the theme for the congress stipulated.
He intimated that such can only be done through leveraging each other’s knowledge, strength, and resources in the face of the unprecedented challenges of climate change, political instability, and economic inequalities confronting the world.
The ISD Country Director was quick to however add that, the partnership goes beyond just sharing resources and knowledge, but also building trust, understanding, and mutual respect as well.
In his remarks, the new National President of GUNA, Reverend Chris Pardie, revealed that hence, restructured GUNA will among other moves step up its presence in second circle institutions, deepen bilateral relations with it, international partners, take stance on salient national issues affecting Ghana in a non-partisan manner as part of its rejuvenated drive.
He was hopeful that with the swearing-in of the new national executives, there will be progress in the Association and fulfillment of GUNA’s mission and vision promising that the Association will be well structured in the various regions.
The seventeen-member executive body was inducted into office last Saturday to lead the body for the next four years.
Ghana United Nations Association, GUNA, is an ally association of the United Nations Organization which plays civil roles focusing extensively on helping to achieve improved and sustainable development within the ambit of the 17 MDGs.
As part of the formalization process, GUNA annuls the existing membership card by issuing a uniquely new membership card to members as well as instituting a more involving and comprehensive process of admitting fresh members.
