Party thugs, accompanying the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman of the Elections Committee in the Ablekuma West Constituency, Odai Parker, reportedly beat up a party executive contesting for vice chairmanship position of the NPP and knocked him out earlier today, Monday March 14, 2022.
Reports say that, Kingsford Amake, was beaten in the presence of the Police for questioning why the Electoral Commissioner for the Election and Returning Officer, was also contesting for the vice chairmanship position in the same election.
“As we speak, Mr Amake is receiving treatment at the hospital because he sustained head injury and other cuts on his body all because he complained of why an EC returning officer can context in a same election he is supervising”, an NPP member said.
Video sighted by The Herald, show a brawl in the streets of the Constituency with one injured man being pulled off the road in the presence of the police.
Same man, was later seen in pictures on admission undergoing treatment at the Family Maternity Home Clinic.
He had heavy plaster around his head with blood stains, and appeared to be in excruciating pain.
Eyewitnesses, said most party loyalists were confused about how the Elections Committee, refused someone from contesting his friend and allowed the electoral anomaly to stand.
Mr Parker, who arrived with the party officials, who assaulted Amake, is said to also be the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NPP and a member of the Constituency.
He has numerous petitions against him from the Constituency.
Last year, he was reported to have assaulted a polling station chairman in a case that was reported at the Dansoman Police Station.
The Constituency, has never been peaceful for well over three years now, as a result of internal crisis and violence.
Even NPP Parliamentary primaries between Ursula Owusu, the incumbent Member of Parliament and other hopefuls, had been very acrimonious.
