The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, delivered a newly constructed Health Centre to the Woarabeba community in his Constituency in Winneba.
This is the eighth of such facilities in the densely populated constituency which houses the esteemed University of Education (UEW).
The state-of-the-art health facility, single-handedly funded by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), is to provide affordable healthcare to the Effutu constituents.
After the inauguration, the MP handed over the fully-furnished facility named after the late Nii Ephraim, a stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who became a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Effutum under the reign of late President John Evans Atta Mills, to the Ghana Health Service.
The move forms part of Mr Afenyo-Markin’s vision to honour and reward deserving sons and daughters of Effutu, who have served diligently in academia, religion, sports and leadership irrespective of their political affiliation.
Woarabeba is a dragnet fishing community located on the east coast of Winneba in the Effutu Constituency. The constituents were thrown into a wild jubilation dancing to music provided by the Central Regional Police Band.
Woarabeba, has an 80 percent Ewe population with the rest 20 percent, being Effutu.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is half Ewe and half fanti, was mentored by Nii Ephraim, who died in 2015. He was seen as a unifier and had also played a fatherly role in the life of the current MP, who once served as a presiding member in the Effutu Municipal Assembly.
Woarabeba, is linked by a 3km road constructed through the industry of the MP, a couple of years ago. Social life and education are also expected to receive a boost when a library and a social/recreational Center under construction are completed.
The Central Regional Police Band, used the opportunity to appreciate Mr Afenyo-Markin for continuing support.
In a citation presented to him, the Police, while applauding his “high sense of leadership”, said “we appreciate your enormous contribution which dare not go unnoticed”.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, emphasised his commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to every person in the constituency.
“The construction of health facilities such as this is in line with the President’s Akufo-Addo’s Agenda 111 policy geared towards improved access to proper health care services regardless of one’s location,” he stated.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, as part of his effort to improve the health needs of constituents is working tirelessly to construct more health infrastructure needed to fulfil that mandate.
The overall goal of the Afenyo-Markin is to ensure the attainment of full health coverage in his constituency in line with The Effutu Dream, which he believes will lead to productive economic and social lives of the people.
He stressed that in addition to the health facilities, plans are underway for the construction of the ultra-modern Children’s hospital first of its kind in the Central Region also ongoing in Winneba.
The Deputy Majority leader, made a cash donation of GH¢10,000 to the Effutu Health Directorate for the purchase of drugs and other basic essentials for smooth commencement of work at the facility.
On her part, a representative of the Director of Health Services for the Effutu Municipality, Melody Delali Atiewu commended the MP for his massive support for the delivery of quality healthcare in Winneba.
“Comprehensive health care services will be offered to the Woarabeba community and adjoining ones. We hope to provide treatment for ailments, immunization, health education, ante and post-natal care, growth monitoring and health promotion,” she noted.
