Antigua and Barbuda has requested additional Ghanaian nurses following what it describes as the positive contribution of the first batch of 120 health workers deployed from Ghana.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed this after a bilateral meeting with Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Chet Greene, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
“The first group of 120 nurses from Ghana is making an impressive impact. Antigua has therefore requested more health workers,” Mr Ablakwa said.
The request signals a possible expansion of Ghana’s health worker deployment arrangements with Caribbean countries as the government seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation through the provision of skilled professionals.
Ghana deployed the first batch of 120 nurses to Antigua and Barbuda in January 2026 under a three-year contract to support healthcare delivery in the country.
The programme forms part of the government’s broader efforts to create employment opportunities for Ghanaian health professionals while expanding the country’s participation in the international health sector.
