The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called for greater efforts to ensure that access to digital financial services translates into improved financial health for households and businesses.
He made the call on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when he welcomed Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, to Bank Square for a Financial Health Leadership Roundtable.
In his keynote address, Dr Asiama said Ghana had become one of Africa’s leading digital finance markets, with interoperable payment systems, mobile money and fintech innovation expanding access to financial services.
However, he said access alone was not enough, stressing the need for households and businesses to benefit from savings, insurance, pensions, investment, financial literacy and responsible credit.
The Governor also highlighted the role of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana’s economy and called for technology, data and innovation to be used to address the financing gap.
He said these tools could reduce information gaps and improve access to finance for viable businesses, women and smallholder farmers on fair and sustainable terms.
Dr Asiama urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and commit to practical measures that would improve financial health for all Ghanaians.
