Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has commended the United States Embassy in Accra for expediting visa processing for the mother and cousin of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was shot dead in the Bronx, New York.
In a statement, Mr Ablakwa said the embassy processed the visas within a day, allowing the two relatives to travel to the United States to join the bereaved family.
He expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what he described as their special intervention in facilitating the process.
Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, the boy’s mother, and her niece were expected to depart Ghana for the US within hours of the announcement.
Mr Ablakwa said the Ghanaian government remained in close communication with US authorities regarding investigations into the teenager’s death, pledging that the government would continue to pursue justice.
He also assured Ghanaians that the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Ghana’s diplomatic missions would continue to support citizens facing attacks or other difficulties abroad.
“No parent deserves to lose their 15-year-old in these heart-wrenching circumstances,” he said, extending the government’s thoughts and prayers to Javits’ parents and family.
