A project set out to raise Ghc100 million for the people of Wassa Amenfi in the Western region, has been launched.
Under the auspices of a developmental Queenmother of the area by name Nana Adwoa Awo 1, the amount to be raised is geared towards mainly infrastructure projects.
The project, which has been christened the ‘ Big Push ‘ is being spearheaded by the Joana Gyan Foundation in collaboration with the Mpuntuo Hemaa of Wassa Agona Amenfi.
In a welcome address at the official launch of the fund, which also formed the fund – raising dinner dance on Saturday April 1, 2023 ,Special Aide to the founder of the Joana Gyan Foundation, Hajia Bintu Saana, indicated that raising of the money will go into the reshaping of roads , toilet facility, markets, small town and community water, construction of classroom blocks and among many others.
This task of raising funds according to Hajia Saana, follows the successful distribution of personal protective equipment by the Joana Gyan Foundation and organizing for the fumigation of the community in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
She further explained that the task is to primarily live up to what is expected of a developmental queen mother and not just a ceremonial one.
This notwithstanding, the Special Aide, said the project is most importantly to give back to the area as a way of giving the place a facelift.
“ The fund raising will also help create jobs for the teeming masses of unemployed youth in the constituency, ensure access to education to all school- going children and provide quality delivery for the people of Wassa Amenfi Central “, she disclosed.
She called on all Ghanaians to contribute to the fund in order to help achieve the target set out.
When she took the floor to address the gathering, the founder of the Joana Gyan Foundation, Mrs. Dr Joana Gyan Cudjoe, gave more insight into challenges of the area.
She said there are over 135 communities which are lacking many developmental projects but she is seeking to bridge this gap when the Ghc100 million is raised.
She, therefore called on banks , businessmen, the academia, telecommunications companies to donate their widow’s mite towards the course.
The donations, she said can start from Ghc100 to any amount.
Aside a designated mobile money number which is 0246639595 , accounts at Zenith, National Investment, and First Atlantic banks, have been opened under the name Joana Gyan Foundation for the donation.
Delivering his keynote address, the Omanhene of the Zanzule Traditional Area , Nana Katakyie, likened the funds raising to the calling of God.
Explaining this, he said this is the time for all those who have been blessed with the financial muscle to willingly support a worthy cause because it is the reason God blessed them with those resources.
Supporting the people of Wassa Amenfi, he noted would also mean, supporting the people of Nzema because all of them are one people who have just been divided by boundaries.
