The University of Ghana has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year, just two days before students were expected to return to campus.
In a notice dated October 10, 2026, the university management said the reopening, originally scheduled for Monday, October 12, had been postponed, with a new date to be announced in due course.
The notice, signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, did not state the reason for the postponement.
Management apologised for any inconvenience the decision may cause and appealed to students to exercise patience as arrangements were made for the reopening.
Despite the delay, students have been urged to complete their online academic registration in line with procedures outlined in an earlier communication from the university.
The university said registration would secure students’ places for classes and ensure their eligibility to participate in the random bed allocation exercise, which is expected to be conducted soon.
The postponement leaves students awaiting a new date for the commencement of the academic year, while the university completes the necessary arrangements for reopening.
