Reports on the number of accidents and deaths on Ghanaian roads since the beginning of the year, must be a cause of concern for all.
The Spintex road is one of the most important roads in the capital city, it is a road that is arguably has a lot of estates dotted along it. It has a large collection of Factories, Supermarkets, Banks, Churches, etc, but the road is in a deplorable state with potholes, coupled with the lack of streetlights.
The inconvenience caused by the potholes to road users can only be imagined. The road is among the busiest in the country, as it links Accra, Tema, Nungua etc.
However, a travel at night on that road, paints a picture of the horror commuters, have to endure in order to get to their destinations.
These and many factors, have contributed to the traffic that has come to be associated with the road and it is having a negative impact on the economy generally, as a result of man hours wasted.
Heavy tonnage trucks that use the road because of the Bonded Warehouses and factories along the road, also put pressure on the road, leading to the fast decay and increasing the number of potholes that keep widening by the day.
There is a particular pothole between Regimanuel junction and Manet Junction just close to Compu Ghana, that has burst many tires. It has become a daily nightmarish experience for motorists, using that road.
Authourities must do something about that particular pothole to avert any disaster waiting to happen. It is a shame that, a road such as the Spintex road that generates so much money in terms of taxes due to the large number of companies on that road to state coffers, is without streetlights.
