The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, made a significant donation to the Ghana Prisons Service on behalf of businessman and philanthropist Mr Ibrahim Mahama.
The donation is aimed at supporting the feeding of inmates during the Ramadan season.

The contribution, which includes 1,000 bags of rice, 417 boxes of cooking oil, 200 boxes of mackerel, and 300 boxes of tin tomatoes, will be distributed across ten prisons nationwide.

Beneficiary facilities, include Nsawam, Ankaful, Kumasi Amanfrom, Kumasi Central, Kumasi Manhyia, Sekondi, Koforidua, Tamale, and Sunyani Prisons.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving conditions within the nation’s correctional facilities.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring inmates receive proper nutrition, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, when many Muslim prisoners observe fasting.
“This initiative underscores the vital role of private sector contributions in addressing food security challenges within our prisons. By supporting inmates during this sacred period, we demonstrate our collective commitment to humanity and social responsibility,” he said.

The Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, received the items on behalf of the service and expressed deep gratitude to Mr Mahama for his generosity.
She called on other individuals and organisations to contribute towards the welfare of inmates, emphasising that such support enhances the rehabilitation process.

This donation aligns with broader efforts to improve the welfare of both inmates and prison officers, reinforcing the government’s pledge to reform and enhance the correctional system in Ghana.
