Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, the ex-Director of Security at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) VVIP section, has finally confirmed his dismissal from the apex state security setup four years after The Herald reported that he had been sacked over certain breaches.
Mr Adorye, had vehemently denied this paper’s publication in January 2019 that he had been sacked from KIA as the National Security director shortly after his luxurious wedding which also saw persons on the national security wanted list in attendance.
Hopeson had challenged The Herald to strict proof that he had been sacked and threatened on radio to sue the management of the paper, but four years on, he has popped up to confirm his dismissal during a discussion on Oman FM’s Boiling Point programme, on which he is a regular guest.
He, however, lied that he was fired purposefully because of his support for Alan Kyerematen, the Trade and Industry Ministry.
Although, he maintained that he was still on the payroll of the National Security, recently, he bitterly lamented that he was suffering under his own government and indicated that his family will never go hungry due to his loss of job.
“I’m not a zombie, uncle (to the host), I was told that my support is not towards a particular camp so should be dismissed, I have been dismissed. He was told “your appointment has been terminated with immediate effect. That is why I am stressing that
God will cater for us, we will never die.” he said.
“I have left it all to God, we won’t sleep hungry. I know it is not my minister who will do this, Kan-Dapaah, will not do this.
Four years ago, The Herald’s sources within the National Security setup, disclosed Adorye’s removal was as a result of accusation that while serving as head of VVIP section of the KIA, he allowed every “Tom, Dick and Harry” to use the privileged VVIP section; a security zone managed by National Security Secretariat, for their private travels abroad.
But speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” on the matter at the time, he said that The Herald publication was fake news, which should be treated with the contempt it deserves, adding he was rather on vacation leave and was going to resume on January 28, 2019.
“I have not been sacked because am sure If indeed I have been sacked, you would have heard and seen by now a sack letter by now. I want to state categorically that I have not been sacked but if Herald thinks what they reported is true, they should produce my sack letter.”
Mr Adorye, therefore, called on the newspaper to either retract the publication or apologize to him.
In a follow up interview at the time, he told MyNewsGh.com when reached on phone Friday, January 18, 2019 that he was on leave and not in the country laughing off claims he has been fired as contained in some media reports.
“I am on leave and not even in the country. Claims I have been sacked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are untrue”, he told this portal.
In furtherance to the news, he challenged The Herald to produce his sacked letter else they should retract and apologize to him for a defamatory publication.
“I challenge ‘Herald’ to produce the “sacked letter” else they should retract and apologize to me”, he posted on his Facebook page sighted by MyNewsGh.com but the paper ignored him.
Hopeson, was long ago, fired from the Kotoka International Airport and kept away from every National Security installation.
His dismissal got him the opportunity to vie for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary ticket for Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region in the 2020, in which he was defeated.
Prior to this, he had been very active and partisan on radio and other media platforms speaking on behalf of the NPP and the Akufo-Addo government.
He later moved on and became the Director of Operation for the Alan Kyeremanten campaign.
Recently, he was condemned for playing tribal politics in favour for Mr Kyerematen.
But over three years since his participation in a Parliamentary contest, Mr Adorye shared a post on Facebook, saying he has officially left the National Security Secretariat after officially handing over his duties at the secretariat.
Adorye, added that he had also been sworn out of office.
“Monday 28th November 2022 around 2 pm, I handed over to my HR at the National Security and sworn out of office. Thank you all. “Nyame nti y3b3 didi,” the post read.
Interestingly, Hopeson, had previously announced on live radio this week that he had been fired from his government job.
“God will cater for us, we will eat, uncle (referring to the show host), God has got us. How we toiled in opposition for Akufo-Addo to come to power, we will do same for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to come.
“I’m not a zombie, uncle, I was told that my support is not towards a particular camp so I should be dismissed, I have been dismissed. ‘Your appointment has been terminated with immediate effect.’ That is why I am stressing that God will cater for us, we will never die,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, his wife, Empress Gifty, a Ghanaian gospel singer, has consoled her husband over his dismissal from the National Security.
But from what I am hearing, I pity those who issued the instruction,” she added. With a video of herself and her husband, Mrs. Gifty Adorye wrote in twi, “Nyame nti y3b3didi,” to wit, we will eat because of God.
