Ghana’s Parliament, has announced the passing of former Old Tafo MP, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto at the age of 64.
He was a Deputy Minister of Finance and later a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry during the John Agyekum Kufuor administration.
In the first term of the Akufo-Addo’s Presidency, he served as a Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation, although it was hoped he was going to be the finance minister.
Many, say he could not achieve anything, because he was not allowed to effectively monitor and evaluate the performance of his colleague ministers in the Akufo-Addo government and the President never took action on the few he did.
The Herald’s information is that he has not been well with a lung related illness for some time now.
He was said to have buried his wife not too long ago.
He was a cousin to ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor and a blood brother of the late Albert Osei of Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC) and Ambassador D.K Osei, who served as President Kufuor’s Secretary.
Meanwhile, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has taken to Facebook to eulogize Dr. Akoto Osei saying “his dedication to serving Mother Ghana was unpaired and his fidelity to the country’s development was unquestionable”.
He expressed joy that he was able to visit him few weeks before his passing saying he was doing much better then.
Dr. Bawumia, wrote “I have heard with shock the passing of Hon. Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, former MP and Minister of the Republic.
“Dr. was a very good friend and one of the people I worked closely with as a Deputy Governor and Vice President of the Republic.
“His dedication to serving mother Ghana was unpaired and his fidelity to the country’s development was unquestionable.
“I paid him a visit just a few weeks ago and was happy that he was doing much better. The news of his passing has therefore come as a complete shock. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away.”
“I am happy to have had a brother in you and to have worked with you. Rest in peace, my brother.
May he rest in peace.
