Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago are exploring new investment opportunities and ways to expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his Trinidad and Tobago counterpart, Sean S.M. Sobers, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, attracting new investments and deepening partnerships in the oil and gas industry.

Mr Ablakwa has since returned to Ghana after participating in the Commonwealth meeting.

As part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ghana is expected to commission its new High Commission in Trinidad next year.

William Anani Abotsi has been named Ghana’s first High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago.

Ghana also used its participation in the Commonwealth meeting to advance discussions on reforms to the United Nations and the international financial system.

The issues included artificial intelligence regulation, climate justice, resource sovereignty, reparatory justice and conflict resolution.
