The Senior Presidential Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo on behalf of His Excellency the President on Friday, January 28, 2022 officially commissioned the Republic Bank head office building also known as the Court Building at Ridge in Accra.
In his remarks, he acknowledged the role that Republic Bank has played in their commitment to growth of the banking sector and the impact in Ghana’s financial economy and the fact that this impressive building further demonstrates their preparedness to invest in order to improve the operations and also serve customers effectively and efficiently. He was quick to add that Republic Bank was the first bank to support the coronavirus pandemic when it hit Ghana by donating to the alleviation fund and also supported the building of Ghana’s Infectious Disease Center at the Ga East Municipal Hospital.
The Senior Presidential Advisor congratulated the Board and Management of Republic Bank for conceiving the idea and devoting considerable resources and energies towards the realization of this dream. Their commitment to good corporate governance is well known and they have been pivotal with their significant performance especially in recent years.
It is worth noting according to, Mr. Osafo-Maafo that Republic Bank per historical records having evolved from HFC Bank by acquiring it and observing the issues related to public sector mortgage housing scheme, housing finance and real estate investments have made it their core and critical products and services to consumers. Government acknowledges the immense contribution of the bank in their commitment to partner them to invest in the housing sector in order to create decent and affordable houses for all.
The Republic Bank is equally well diversified and has interest in corporate, commercial and retail banking; investment banking; mortgage banking and micro finance as well. The parent Bank of Republic Financial Holdings Limited in Trinidad & Tobago has been very instrumental in the development of the oil and gas industry in the Caribbean region and Republic Bank is encouraged to consider venturing into this area of operations to leverage on their expertise and competencies primarily to enhance dynamism in the oil and gas sector here in Ghana.
Yaw Osafo-Maafo reiterated the fact that the Bank has the potential to go further and as partner to government, Ghanaians and Africa expect them to be a key player as government seeks to transform this economy through digitalization and they should also leverage immensely on the opportunities that technology brings in deepening financial inclusion.
Present the commissioning ceremony were the Honorary Consul, Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Hilton John Mitchell; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey; the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison; the Board Chairman of Republic Bank, Mr. Charles Zwennes; Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Farid Antar; and the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Sackey among other dignitaries.
