She’s the daughter of a Captain. Not just any Captain but one who bossed affairs in both the military and corporate world – Prince Kofi Amoabeng, the man described by many as the key architect of transformational banking in the West African country, Ghana.
Being the daughter of such a disciplinarian can come with its own unique challenges including being forced to learn the ethics and rudiments of professional work at the age of 16.
There were no handouts, pure sweat even for a person whom many would have thought would have been given things on a silver platter.
From internships to training programmes and the like, Violet would learn a lot about banking and subsequently join her father in that space.
For a girl who grew up not knowing exactly what she wanted to do in life, it was easier walking in her father’s steps but a sore lip would one day change all that.
Violet had woken up one day to a sore lip, not as a result of prolonged kissing or anything of the sort.
The cause of that sore lip was not even the bother for the young banker.
Her worry was that several days after trying different products to help deal with the situation, there was little to no improvement so she took matters into her own hands.
She started mixing anything and everything with shea butter, following a recommendation by a friend and applying her ‘concoction’ to her lip and in three days, the sore spirit holding her lip hostage had let go. Freedom at last!
That episode would get Violet to consider starting the production of the best body butter the world has ever seen.
She withdrew her entire savings, including every last bit of it to start the production of her new formula.
A few years down the line, and with absolutely no financial support from her father, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Violet left banking to pursue her new found love and today, her company, Skin Gourmet produces and exports to over 20 countries all over the world.
Her principle is simple – if it’s not good enough to be eaten, then it’s not good enough to be on your skin.
