The country’s security establishment, has fallen into the hands of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, who is known for his vitriolic attacks on real and imaginary opponents, and the results have been blatant human rights violations of some citizens, including Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei and Bishop Daniel Obinim alias “Angel Obinim”.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has in the last few days, been in and out of various radio and television programmes, boasting of having ordered the arrests of these two individuals, one of whom, had been paraded in front of cameras holding what was claimed to be marijuana, and being mocked by National Security operatives.
The head of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Isaac Ken Yeboah, is reported to be a bosom friend of the Assin Central MP and the last few days, had seen him acting on the orders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP by arresting Daniel Obinim of the International God’s Way Church, for an offense which is still not clear.
Same Kennedy Agyapong, has also boasted of sending operatives of the National Security to arrest Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei of the Hezekiah Prayer Ministry, over alleged threats issued against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa.
Interestingly, while both National Security Secretariat and the Police CID, have not denied the involvement of Kennedy Agyapong in the arrests of the individuals, it has been established that, Mr Agyapong’s bodyguard mentioned as, Kudus took part in the arrest of Apostle Owusu Adjei, who has since been remanded in Prison Custody.
What is more bizarre, is the Police Service, conducting medical urine test on Apostle Owusu Adjei and leaking the test to the public.
The preacher, who had been seen in some videos praying against death and misfortune for President Akufo-Addo, was arrested on Tuesday at his resident by well-built National Security operatives in the presence of some journalists, while in the middle of a live interview with Accra-based Hot FM, both on radio and Facebook.
It is unclear, who ordered the said urine test to be conducted, but what has raised eyebrows, is the leakage of the result from the Police Hospital in Accra on social media detailing findings, including claims that, Apostle Owusu Adjei, tested positive to Tramadol, a pain reliever and Tetrahydrocannabinol also known as marijuana.
Tramadol, is being abused by users for narcotic purposes.
The Herald, cannot also tell if lawyers of the Apostle, were present before the test signed by Supt/Dr. Adwoa Nuro-Panin, MWACP (Psychiatry) was conducted or they were informed and they agreed to be carried out.
But some have argued that, the so-called test was carried out to justify the claim by the National Security operatives that Apostle Owusu Adjei, smokes wee, reason why upon his arrest, they found in his waist bag, the banned substance.
The result of the test captioned “To whom it may concern”, also had opiates, alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamine, cotinine tests coming out negative. This is the second time both National Security and the Police, are misconducting themselves in this particular case.
Last Tuesday, operatives of the National Security stormed the home of the man of God ostensibly to get him arrested over comments he allegedly made against the chairperson of theEC over the compilation of a new voters’ register.
The National Security men, who arrived in three brand new Toyota Land Cruisers brandishing a paper they claimed was an arrest warrant for the arrest of Mr Owusu Agyei and pistols shown to the cameras, did not make him read the content of the said warrant as prescribed by law.
Strangely, hours after the arrest, pictures and videos emerged on various social media platforms of Apostle Kwabena Owusu Agyei ina room in possession of a substance suspected to be marijuana (wee) while in handcuffs.
In one of the videos, the men who arrested him were heard mocking him in Twi, “everyone will hear of you. A pastor who smokes wee”. “You smoke wee and talk nonsense”.
It is not clear, if the weed was planted on the preacher by the operatives or he truly smokes weed and it was indeed, found on him. But the operatives later picked the suspected wee from him and stashed it into his waist bag, where the substance was claimed to have been retrieved.
They wore neither gloves nor anything that would have prevented the finger prints on the suspected narcotic substance.
Interestingly, the preacher remained silent throughout the ordeal, as though he did not want to implicate himself in the absence of his lawyer. It was clear the video was made by the National Security operatives.
A picture of the suspect later emerged with him suspected to be in the courtroom and in a dock in what will pass as one of the quickest arraignments in the criminal justice history of Ghana. It is yet unclear, what he was arrested for and why he was put before court.
But security analyst, Adam Bonaa, condemned the Rambo-style arrest describing it as ‘shameful acts’.
In a piece titled “My Name is Adam Bonaa and I am a concerned CITIZEN of Ghana”, which has gone viral, he questioned “are we in a Banana Republic?
Which law says one can be pronounced guilty before he or she appears in Court? Must National Security Agents Video Prophet Kwabena Owusu Agyei in the manner they did? Is Ghana no longer a rule of Law country?
What the suspect said is wrong but that cannot warrant this disrespect to rule of law by the arresting officers.I have TEN (10) Questions for National Security and the security fraternity in Ghana, which is headed by the President as the Chair of the National Security Council.
Apostle Owusu Agyei at a Church Service on Facebook live on Sunday, warned the EC boss to halt her decision to compile a new voters’ register for the upcoming polls.
While displaying his voters’ ID, Apostle Kwabena Owusu Agyei, insisted that if the voters’ register undergoes any substantive changes, the Electoral Commissioner, will die.In his words, the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, will die at 12 midday, if she goes ahead with the compilation of the new register.
The prophet also emphatically stated that, during the June 4 revolution, the blood of military men was shed but what he is hearing this time, it is the blood of the ‘Akyem mafia’ that will flow.
“Let me tell them (Akyems) something, on June 4 people were crying let the blood flow, it was only military people whose blood flowed… Today as I hear the let the blood flow, it is the blood of the Akyem Mafia that will flow… I saw Akyem Kyebi palace, I saw it on fire and people were saying let the blood flow,” he said while warning President Akufo-Addo to not open the borders for prospective runaways.
"I'm telling Jean Mensa today... If Jean Mensa thinks she was not born of a woman but came from some other angle, she should go ahead and do the new register. She will die 12 midday.
She will die just like that. Nonsense! Idiot! You're an idiot Jean Mensa... Stupid Akufo-Addo girl..." he fumed.
Kennedy Agyapong had in the past boasted about chasing Bright Oduro, from office as CID boss. Mr. Oduro, was embarrassingly sacked from office by government and denied the contracts appointments which had seen the current IGP serving more years long after his retirement.
He had also viciously abused the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Daapah, when the minister tried to reprimand NPP elements operating under the name of Delta Force and Invincible Forces; vigilante groups strongly affiliated to the ruling party in the Ashanti region and Greater Accra Region, respectively.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah’s offense was that some 13 members of the Delta Forces had who had detained in connection with attacking the Regional Security Coordinator. Other members of the group had also stormed a Kumasi Circuit Court to free the 13 their members who were facing charges for causing mayhem at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
The irate group had destroyed court properties and freed the suspects in the process. The marauding group also attacked the presiding judge who had earlier ruled that the suspects be remanded to appear before court on April 20, 2017.
An eyewitness disclosed that Presiding judge Mary Senkyire, prosecutor and Bailiff had to be rescued by the Police in court.
No arrest was made even though the Police were present in court. The NPP vigilante group’s vandalism had come after the National Security Minister, said the Delta, Invisible forces and the other forces are not registered and therefore do not exist.
According to him, those groups are action groups of party foot soldiers who are perpetuating violence and molesting Ghanaians.
“There are no legally registered vigilante groups in this country and for that matter, there are no such groups to be disbanded. However, I think we need to be pragmatic and accept that foot soldier of the leading political parties are known to constitute themselves into action troops to molest and unleash violence on the peace loving people of this country.”
This led to the several days of abuses from Kennedy Agyapong who accused him of not supporting Nana Akufo-Addo when he was in opposition. The NPP MP had accused Kan-Daapah of running to seek employment at the University of Professional Studies (UPS) and refusing to support NPP activities. It appears, the Minister is afraid of him.
