The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has made a case for the Assemblies share of the 1% levy which is charged power consumers by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) .

The call is to help the region, maintain the street lighting project which she has embarked upon since becoming the regional boss.

The Minister, made the call in a remarks before going on an inspection of some stretch light installation in some districts in the capital on March 25, 2025.

She said, there is the need for the power sector to work on the modalities to release to the MMDAs their share of the 1% charged consumers for streetlights.

“ This would augment the resources of the MMDAs to keep the lights on all the time”, she stressed.

Aside calling for the modalities to give the Assemblies their share of the 1%, she also charged Ghanaians to question suspicious persons they see around streetlights and demand their identity.

For her, it is one of the ways the issues of cable theft of the streetlights can be fought.

The Minister, toured others areas such the High Street, the Jamestown and the Flagstaff House.

Addressing the media later in the median in front of the Flagstaff House, she dismissed claims by the Minority Leader, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who said the seat of Government was in darkness.

She further shot down the claim and threw the challenge, asking the Minority Leader to come and see if the Flagstaff House was  in  darkness.
