Foreign Ministry  seeks help to evacuate Ghanaians caught in Iran-Israel conflict

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, is urgently seeking logistical assistance to support the ongoing emergency evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from Iran, following the escalating tensions and conflict between Iran and Israel.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the appeal during the Ghana-European Union Partnership Dialogue held in Accra, yesterday, Tuesday, June 17, 2025

He stressed the critical need for coordinated international support to ensure the safety of Ghanaian citizens caught in the growing hostilities between the two Middle Eastern nations.

“We also appeal for your support in terms of logistics as we currently continue with our evacuation of Ghanaians in Iran and Israel following the unfortunate conflict that has erupted over the last few days,” Mr Ablakwa said.

The minister confirmed that so far, no Ghanaian fatalities or injuries, have been recorded, and evacuations from Iran are “proceeding successfully.”

In a detailed public update posted on June 16, the Ministry, outlined key developments and steps being taken to protect Ghanaian citizens:

Evacuation from Iran is underway, while efforts to secure permission for evacuation from Israel are still ongoing due to closed borders and emergency conditions.

Ghana’s Embassy in Israel has identified 922 Ghanaians currently residing in the country, including 65 students studying across six universities.

Regular communication channels have been established with the Ghanaian community in Israel, and all nationals have been directed to access bomb shelters as part of emergency safety protocols.

Ghana’s Emergency Evacuation Plan for Israel has been approved and is ready to be activated once the necessary conditions and permissions are met.

Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad.

The Ministry has also advised all diplomats and embassy staff in Israel to work from home, in accordance with Israeli authorities’ safety directives.

The Foreign Ministry continues to engage with global partners and remains on high alert as it coordinates efforts to secure and repatriate affected Ghanaians in both conflict zones.
