Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has created a reputation for speaking without reasoning; this I sincerely believe is a sign of some inner insecurity. An insecurity that stemmed from a nagging conscience, because of the way and manner he has conducted himself since he was elected to the enviable position of a regional chairman of the second largest political party in the country.
Chairman Wontumi, is outspoken, bold, and brash. He takes on all comers without concern for consequences, even if it flies in the face of commonsense.
There are elders and there are elders and Chairman Wontumi is not an elder, because an elder does not talk they were he does.
The younger brother of the President, Ibrahim Mahama, has dragged him to court for calling him and the President, John Dramani Mahama, thieves.
The bases or the evidence for such an allegation is yet to be proven in court, as he keeps abstaining himself anytime the case is called.
I was beginning to think that, with an embarrassment waiting to befall him, the man will control his thrombosis and what comes out of it, but I was wrong.
It is said that, a decorated monkey is still a monkey and wash a pig, cloth a pig, it will still remain a pig, it will always find its way into the pit.
In the Monday August 24, 2015 edition of the Daily Guide on page 16, is a story captioned “Wontumi Foils NDC ‘Kayeyie Agenda”. The paper quoted Chairman Wontumi as saying, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is allegedly planning to inhumanly treat female porters, popularly known as ‘Kayeyie’ who operate in Kumasi.
Foil is defined by Wikipedia as “prevent (something considered wrong or undesirable) from succeeding”.
Reading through the story, I did not see what Chairman Wontumi did to foil the alleged plot to frustrate Kayeyies by people wearing NPP t-shirts.
Chairman Wontumi made the allegation based on the fact that a meeting took place last Friday at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). According to him in attendance was the First Lady, Lordina Mahama.
“The First Lady Lordina Mahama was present at the meeting when the NDC came out with a plan to create disaffection for the porters,” Chairman Wontumi is quoted as telling King Edward of Hello FM.
Statements like this are, what exposes Chairman Wontumi as lacking the brains and capacity to manage a political party at such level.
The First Lady, since 2013, has dedicated herself to helping the underprivileged in our society. Her commitment to helping women in the country, has won her many accolades and admiration across the length and breadth of this country and beyond. It is that commitment that, has placed her tall among first ladies in the sub-region.
We are all witnesses to what other first ladies in the sub-region, have abused their positions, the only time you hear of our first lady, is when her benevolence has touched one community or another.
To even think that, such a person would sit through a meeting orchestrated at running down the very work she is doing, can only come from someone with a twisted mind.
How will the NDC benefit electorally if such a tactics is employed. The most logical question to ask again is, the NDC won the 2012 elections, without plotting to discredit the NPP.
I have always maintained that, Chairman Wontumi speaks without thinking, how NDC can dare employ such tactics in the stronghold of the NPP, only the diehard who does not value his or her life will try such a move in another party’s stronghold.
My nest question to Chairman Wontumi is, does his wife attend NPP meetings? I should not think twice or scratch my head to come up with an answer; the answer is a big No. How then does he think that the first lady attends NDC meetings?
His attempt to pull down everybody is his way by employing this communist inferior tactics is not helping his course and that of the NPP.
Sometimes the like of Chairman Wontumi betrays and diminishes the gains we have made since 1992 when we ushered in the democratic dispensation.
I have never heard him make any intellectual argument; he is always in the news for all the wrong reasons, he makes headlines for doing things that are unbecoming of a regional Chairman.
When I hear people like I him, I remember what my mother use to say “Money enter wrong hands”. He is rich by default.
Politics as they say is a market place of ideas, one political party, cannot claim to have all the ideas, so Chairman Wontumi, should be out there selling his party’s policies and programmes, elections are not won at the back of insults and name calling.
God forbid, should Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, becomes President, how Chairman Wontumi will feel, if someone deliberately and unintelligently say derogatory things about Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
He needs to elevate his politics, his penchant for throwing dust at his political opponent, has reached the height of absurdity.
He is an embarrassment to the office he occupies. I do not blame him, I blame the delegates of the NPP, for voting for an ignoramus, who does not even fit to be an assemblyman.
Members of the NPP are their own worst enemies to a country and party they all pretend to love and care for. The delegates no doubt were co-opted by the forces of greed; they keep voting for same damn people to office.
