Preparation, they say meet opportunity, and when a vacuum is created, the most prepared fill in the space. It is obvious that, the former finance minister, Seth Terkper, has not recognized the vacuum created by the lack ingenuity on the part of the government to arrest the fast declining cedi.
Great leaders, who made their mark and left footprints for generations, did not wait for the right moments, they did not wait to be pushed to take action, they always seize the moment, they stand up and be counted.
As someone, who has worked at the World Bank, being a deputy finance minister and rising to occupy the seat as finance minister, he has the benefit being at the stage of policy formulation and seeing to it implementation.
What he sees sitting down, many people, will not standing up. He has a civic duty to the country to offer his insight and how we can arrest the depreciation of the currency.
Mr Terkper, is in the country and so cannot pretend to be oblivious of what is happening at the Cedi, he is also spending the time he has by churning out one article after another on issues he considers important, but I want to remind him that, nothing is more important than our legal tender.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, then the running mate to candidate Akufo-Addo, became a household name, when he organized series of lectures to talk about the cedi.
Ghanaians saw him as an authourity on the currency, he was hailed by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and hailed as a whiz kid, we were told he had the magic wand to stop the rapid fall of the cedi.
At that time, those of us, who were not blind saw through what he was doing, he became a lotto forecaster, or an election pollster, who studied the trend and so can easily predict.
He posed some 170 questions to the then vice-president, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur of blessed memory and by extension the government of which you were the finance minister, but you allowed him to have a field day and a home run, as the Americans will say.
Dr. Bawumia is in power, and as things stand now, the man is not capable of answering his own 170 questions, and so it is expected that, someone must stand up to him.
Dr. Bawumia, convinced all of us in the run up to the 2016 elections that, he had all the solutions to the country’s challenges, especially the depreciation of the currency.
Many Ghanaians who believed him and voted for change expect the same level of delivery from him, but things do not look like he promised.
The rate of depreciation of the Cedi is getting scarier by the day. In early 2017, vice-president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, told Ghanaians that, the cedi has been arrested and the key given to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The cedi, has broken jail and is on a frolic of its own. It is behaving like the militia, who have become a canker on our conscience and is a curse on everything we hold dear.
The former president, John Dramani Mahama, has reposed a lot of confidence in Seth Terkper. Even at the verge of being on a collision course with the National Democratic Congress, president Mahama, still defended and stood by Seth Terkper.
The time is neigh for him to reciprocate that confidence and also make the former president proud. Seth Terkper, must show the NPP and Dr. Bawumia that the NDC, has the men and if given the chance, they can be equal to the task.
The country is at the crossroad, this is not the time for meekness and shouting from the stands, the write ups and articles cannot echo well with the people. Many people will not have the opportunity to read, and as we all know in this part of the world, we do not read.
Silence is no longer an option. The NDC is done with its primary over the weekend, the delegates overwhelmingly endorsed ex-president Mahama that in essence means campaigning has started.
Seth Terkper must reassure Ghanaians that, their plight are short-lived, he must give them hope that tomorrow will better than today.
He must give traders and businessmen as well as business women the assurance that, when they vote for John Dramani Mahama in 2020, their nightmare as far as the dollar is concern will be over.
Until his appointment as deputy finance minster by late president John Evans Atta Mills, Seth Terkper, was not your everyday or consummate politician, but after serving at the finance ministry for eight years, he no longer has the luxury of sitting back and watch the game being played by people, who are running the country into the ground.
He has become a politician not by choice, but by accident. History will remember him as someone, who did not fold his arms and watch whiles the economy is being mismanaged, but that he came in to help rescue the country from the claws politicians, who are incompetent.
