The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga, has indicated that the Government is considering hosting the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2015, after the initial report that Morocco, the host nation had declined hosting the tournament.

Our very unique nature and so characteristics of our communal living, makes it impossible for us to consider hosting such a gathering of people from all over Africa, in the light of the deadly Ebola Virus, that has so far claimed more than 4,000 lives in West Africa sub -region.

Thank goodness, authourities of Morocco have come out to deny saying that the country was not ready to host the tournament, after they prevailed on Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone the football festival.

West Africa and by extension Africa, has shown that it is not prepared to contained the spread of Ebola and so it will be in the best interest of the citizens if CAF, listens to the voice of reason to postpone the tournament until such a time that the world finds a cure for it and until such time that Africa is ready to combat the virus.

What will CAF lose, if it postpones the tournament, absolutely nothing, the tournament should not be held for whatever reason that will threaten the existence of the people of Africa.

Without a doubt, South Africa is the biggest and most advanced economy in Africa, if they have said that they are not prepared, why our Minister of Youth should and Sports, even say that we are considering.

Already, the Minister had commissioned a team to ensure that we win the right to host the AFCON 2017, so why are we in a hurry to jump to the rescue of CAF, when we know full well that we are not ready to contain the Ebola Virus, should it enter this country.

God has been so kind to us that even though the virus is widespread in West Africa, we are yet to record a first case, what we should be doing is to safeguard our borders, to prevent the likelihood of somebody bringing it in.

Our budget is already overstretched; statutory payments are in arrears, where do we even wish to get the money to organize such a big tournament in four months?
Mahama Ayariga, should not get ahead of himself, how many deaths have we recorded and continue to as a result of the outbreak of cholera. If we cannot find a panacea for Cholera, how can we with our limited resources fight Ebola?

Countries, such as Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea if care was not taken are turning into banana Republics, because of the devastation caused by the Ebola Virus, it is unimaginable, Ghana is simply not ready.
