The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) has announced the agenda for its 2019 Partnership Meeting, in Berlin Germany, on the theme Drivers of Change.

Effective stakeholder collaboration and partnerships; Strong business and policy environment; and Increased public-private investment in science, innovation, and learning are the three main prongs of the agenda hoped to deliver a blueprint for real and effective change in the global cocoa industry.

A discussion on the fight against child labor is expected to open the plenary session, when the 2019 WCF Partnership meeting kicks in from October 23.

Setting the conversation in context will be a presentation reporting on transformative partnerships and new approaches to nipping child labor in the bud.

Later, a breakout session on the topic is also expected to explore the novel idea of retailers as drivers of change.

The agenda will as well have a review of four years of CocoaAction, a voluntary cocoa sustainability strategy, detailing partnerships, impact, and lessons learned.

Ghana Cocoa Board chief executive, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, and Ivory Coast’s Yves Brahima Koné, Director General of Conseil du Café Cacao (CCC) are billed to speak on West African Policy Reforms.

The two West African neighbors, Ghana and Ivory Coast who together produce about 65 percent of the world’s cocoa beans, earlier in June successfully got global industry partners to agree to a historic cocoa floor price pegged at $2600 per tonne, the first by cocoa producers.

Other confirmed speakers are Justin Adams, TFA2020; Michel Arrion, ICCO; Maria Flachsbarth, BMZ; Gilles Patrick A. Viwanou Gnassounou, ACP; Kate Lawyer, The Gates Foundation; Leonard Mizzi, EU Commission, and Kavita Prakash-Mani, World Wildlife Fund.

The WCF 2019 Partnership Meeting is due to be opened by Hans-Joachim Fuchtel of the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture.

The Meeting closes on October 24.
