The Volta Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Gunu, is pushing for an exciting proposal for the party in the region, to be used as yardstick for the crucial 2020 general elections.
Mr Gunu, who is known for policy formulation, is advocating for the region to sign what he termed “Performance Contract” with its 2020 flagbearer and leader, former President, John Dramani Mahama.
Apart from the flagbearer, he also wants same agreement to be signed between all parliamentary candidates and their respective constituency executives to ensure an effective and achievable campaign.
Speaking in an interview with some journalists in Ho, the regional capital on the way forward for the NDC going into next year elections, the regional Secretary explained the performance contract would be developed out of the party’s campaign manifesto.
In his view, he observed that the performance contract will among others, kill voter apathy, set achievable targets for the political actors and cure the perception that the region is taken for granted after every election.
According to him, it will also help the NDC government in the sense that whatever the region demands from government after winning power, would not be seen as “too much” because, every demand will be based on the performance contract the region had executed.
Mr. Gunu further explained, the Performance Contract will serve as the benchmark for accelerated development of the region and would be owned and binding on all players.
He indicated that the policy will have monitoring and evaluation mechanism that will enable it to be reviewed annually to ensure that, the party remains focused on its enviable development agenda for the region.
“It will also give the region the opportunity to demonstrate its fullest support and love for the former President H.E JDM and the NDC once again as whole that, the party belongs to “you and I”, he stated.
He “all our next Parliamentary Candidates will sign Performance Contract with the constituency executives and other stakeholders”.
“The region mean serious business to ensure that JDM wins next year’s PRESIDENTIAL elections massively” he stressed.
