Vlisco Ghana Tailor Academy Graduates Fresh Fashion Experts

Internationally recognized fashion fabrics producer and distributor, Vlisco Group, has successfully passed out thirteen female candidates as fashion designers, after taking them through twelve months intensive training at Vlisco Group Tailor Academy.

The graduates, who started their training in August last year, were carefully selected from the Northern Region, which has been identified as the most deprived area in the country.

They were awarded certificate in Fashion Design from Vlisco Group Tailor Academy last Friday, at spectacular event where the graduants showcased their classic designs to the admiration of the invited guests.

According to the Management of Vlisco, out of the thirteen new graduates, seven of them would be employed within its tailoring workshop in Tema and POI partners.

Speaking to The Herald at the event, the Managing Director of Vliscom, Ghana, Mr. Kofi Boateng said “At Vlisco, we have made it part of our company’s purpose to facilitating women empowerment through training programmes, promoting women entrepreneurship via the Vlisco Tailor Academy and Dream Fund across Africa”.

Interestingly, the Academy is doing the entire training for free tuition, including free accommodation as well as giving allowances to support the needs of candidates throughout the period of the course.

He stated noted that, the vision of Vlisco Tailor Academy Ghana is to support talented Ghanaian tailors, dressmakers and fashion designers to creating a platform that connects African fashion talent and creativity with the knowledge of Vlisco Group in the African and global fashion world.

This vision, Mr. Boateng emphasized will be achieved through integrating education, funding, coaching and employment into a fashion facilitation ecosystem. He reiterated that, for Vlisco Group, catalyzing the African fashion world and the empowerment of women, are the drivers for the Vlisco Group Tailor Academies.

One of the graduates, Ms Aviadari Janet who is 22years of age has also narrated how excited she is after randomly picked, went through the processes and brought to Accra to for this programme. She told The Herald she is glad her dream and desire of becoming a fashion designer has been materialized through Vlisco Tailor Academy initiative.

Vlisco Group designs has four brands which includes Vlisco, GTP, Woodin and Uniwax that are distributed across the Western and Central African markets and in all global metropolitan cities.
