The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) in the Greater Accra Region,Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, was last week unanimously elected as the new President of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG)at the association’s biennial assembly to elect national executivesto in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional capital.
The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) is the umbrella organization of all local government authorities in the country.
After some intense canvassing for votes between the supporters of Mr. James Gunu; District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akatsi North in the Volta Region, a competitor forthe presidential slot polled three hundred and fifty –six (356) votes, whilst the Tema Mayor, Isaac Asha Odamtten polled six hundred and twenty-four (624) votes to win the slot for the 2016/20017 administrative year of the association.
After the one thousand and eighty (1080) delegates drawn from the two hundred and sixteen (216) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs) voted, Dr. Stan Kadingdi, from the Upper West Region, polled five hundred and seventy –nine (579) votes to assume the position of First Vice President, beating Nuru Hamidan from the Ashanti Region, who polled four hundred and three (403) votes.
Miss Louisa Amanor, from the Western Region, polled seven hundred forty –seven (747) to secure the position of Second Vice President, beating the following individuals: one Mahama from the Northern Region, who polled ninety-six (96) and Nana Asamoah from the Central Region, who also polled one hundred and thirty-one (131) votes.
The Trustee position was won by Mr. Wisdom Zor from the Brong Ahafo region, by polling six hundred and five (605) votes, Mr Samuel Ziggah from the Central Region, polled one hundred eighty-five(185) votes to beat Eric Kusi from the Ashanti Region, who polled eighty-five (985),while Mr. Peter Essifie from the Eastern Region, polled ninety(90) votes.
The position of Treasurer of NALAG, went unopposed to Rita Sowah, also from the Greater Accra Region, and Rita Awatey from the Eastern Region as the Deputy Treasurer of the association.
In an acceptance address after a congratulatory message from Mr. Gunu, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, pledged to offer the kind of leadership being offered by President John Dramani Mahama.
He said, his administration would be committed to transparent administration and an open door policy, to satisfy the needs of all members.
He pledged to make the activities of the association formidable in the scheme of local government administration in the country to help solve some of the teeming challenges confronting the development of the association.
