Against Ibrahim Mahama Again
Months after the British Crown Court brought finality on the Ruby Adu Gyemfi, aka Naa Yele, aka “Cocaine Angel” case, the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central , Kennedy Agyapong, who desperately tried, but failed in linking Ibrahim Mahama to illicit drug dealings, is planning another dirty campaign against the successful businessman.
Yesterday, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, hopped from one radio station to the other saying, President John Mahama, has dashed some 20 earthmoving vehicles worth a whopping 27 million euro belonging to the government of Ghana, to his younger brother to facilitate his construction company, Engineers & Planners (E&P),
describing the arrangement as a monumental scandal.
But The Herald’s findings are that, the Local Government Ministry, only put the vehicles in the custody of E&P, to dredge the filth-filled Odaw River, which last month led to the death of nearly 200 Ghanaians, as a result of the torrential rains.
The Herald is also informed that, the dredging estimated at the US$130 million, is being carried out free of charge for the government by Ibrahim Mahama’s E&P, to help prevent the needless loss of lives.
The same company, E&P sometime last year, repaired a bridge and other parts of the Tema Motorway free of charge following some huge damages which had virtually cut off Tema from Accra. The repair, was estimated by the Road Minister then to be about US$30 million dollars.
This time, the self-styled billionaire and a loyalist of Nana Akufo-Addo, yesterday mounted the studios of Asempa FM, an Accra-based radio station and threw mud at Ibrahim Mahama saying, the Ghanaian taxpayer was losing 27 million Euros as per the arrangement between the government and Ibrahim Mahama, adding this scandal was going to collapse the Mahama government.
The NPP lawmaker, could not understand why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, had allocated the heavy duty construction equipment, belonging to some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to Mr. Mahama, who he claimed was also using the equipment for his private construction business.
However, two documents signed by the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lante Vandepuije, dated June 16, 2015, suggest Kennedy Agyapong was only out to play dirty mischief.
The letter headlined, “Request for Release of Construction Equipment” said “following the directive from the Office of the President, we wish to request for the release of Twenty (20) Tipper Trucks to Messers, Engineers and Planning Co. Ltd to undermine emergency dredging exercise on selected major storm drains in the Greater Accra Metropolitan area which are in flood prone-areas”.
The documents addressed to the Managing Director of a company called, “German Equipment & Machinery Company Accra” emphatically stated that, the equipment would be returned to MMDAs on the completion of the exercise.
The second letter dated June 17, this year, also signed by the Deputy Minister headlined “Request for the Release for Construction Equipment”, said “we refer to our earlier letter No. SCR/B134/2548/01 dated June 16, 2015 requesting for the release of twenty (20) MAN Tipper trucks to Messers Engineers and Planners Co. Ltd”.
The directive said, “the company is making an additional request for the under-mentioned heavy duty equipment. Three Excavators, three Payloaders and four Bulldozers. It would be appreciated if the necessary action could be taken to release the equipment to the firm”.
But The Herald, has learnt the dredging of the Odaw storm drains project which is expected to cost the nation a colossal amount, is being executed out of the benevolence of Ibrahim Mahama. His drivers and artisans repair these vehicles at the expense of E&P. The government only fuels them.
The Herald, has further learnt hitherto, the equipment were packed at a private warehouse and periodically rented out to private people on the blindside of the MMDAS and the proceeds pocketed by some unscrupulous individuals.
Mr. Agyepong’s quest to tarnish the reputation of Mr. Mahama and his Senior brother’s administration fell flat yesterday, as listeners of Asempa FM, kept texting into the show hosted by KABA, asking the NPP MP to stop the cheap and dirty campaign against Ibrahim Mahama.
To most of them, E&P, must rather be commended for the charity it was doing to save lives. Mr. Agyapong, who was obviously shamed claimed he was going to be back with further and better particulars to substantiate his claim against the Mahama brothers.
More to Come!
